Memorial Day Weekend - 1998

Memorial Day Weekend 1998

By 1998, Memorial Day Weekend had grown into one of the largest annual LGBTQ gatherings on the Gulf Coast, attracting thousands of visitors from across the Southeast and beyond. For several days each year, Pensacola became a destination for celebration, bringing together people from all walks of life through beach events, nightlife, entertainment, and community activities. The weekend reflected how a tradition that began decades earlier with small Fourth of July gatherings had evolved into a nationally recognized celebration of LGBTQ community and pride.

This gallery preserves photographs from Memorial Day Weekend 1998 as part of the Emma Jones Society's mission to document and preserve the history of LGBTQ life in Northwest Florida. These images capture the people, friendships, and unforgettable moments that helped define one of Pensacola's most significant LGBTQ traditions.
